SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, issues the following statement Wednesday after Gov. Pritzker’s Budget Address in Springfield:
“After four years of Rauner’s unwillingness to compromise and the pursuit of a political agenda over the needs of Illinois families, Gov. Pritzker offered a more balanced approach to help address our state’s long term fiscal issues. Pritzker made clear his intention to work with everyone in the General Assembly to pass a state budget that keeps our schools open and protects the critical services that so many people rely on.
“Our schools and universities are in desperate need of more funding, and I applaud the governor for reaffirming his commitment to fully funding education in our state. Our universities suffered greatly during the Rauner budget crisis, and they need our support to continue to offer world-class programs.
“The governor has promised to listen to everyone who brings ideas to the table, regardless of party or ideology. It is refreshing to see the governor discussing the needs of Illinois residents and I am encouraged by his willingness to work together with legislators to address our budget issues for the long-term. I look forward to working with both the governor and my colleagues in the General Assembly to pass a budget helping Illinois families.”
