SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To end an era of mismanagement in the Illinois Tollway System, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, recently supported new legislation to reform the way the organization is administrated.

“For far too long the Illinois Tollway board has shown signs of mismanagement, appearing to serve only as a cushy position for political cronies to cash in on taxpayer-funded perks,” said Mussman. “Members of the Tollway board need to be held accountable to taxpayers, and there have been some real ethical concerns about current management practices. Reform of this board is absolutely necessary.”

Mussman, who has led previous efforts to promote good government and transparency within state government, voted to pass Senate Bill 1298 on Tuesday. The measure would reorganize the way in which the Tollway board is managed, and will remove all current members of the board.

“It is important to ensure that individuals that serve on the Tollway board are qualified, and are concerned about what is best for Illinoisans that use our local tollways,” continued Mussman. “This legislation will hold board members accountable to the taxpayers that fund their salaries, and increase transparency within the organization.”
