CHICAGO – To kick off the holiday shopping season, state Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, is encouraging shoppers to take part in Small Business Saturday on November 26.
“Shopping at neighborhood stores helps create jobs and keep money in our communities,” Andrade said.
“By supporting locally-owned businesses and restaurants on Small Business Saturday and throughout the busy shopping season, we are making a very important investment in our communities.”
Small Business Saturday is an annual event on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The designation of that particular day is a way to help local merchants compete with big box retailers and online retailers during their busy Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping times. Andrade highlighted the merits of shopping at local stores that provide jobs for local residents, tax revenue, sponsorship for community groups, support for charities and outstanding personalized services.
“When small businesses in our neighborhoods thrive, the rest of our community benefits from their success,” Andrade said. “In addition to promoting Small Business Saturday, I am committed to working with local residents, local business owners, and neighborhood groups, to support a vibrant local economy.”
