Halpin Announces Award Opportunity for Volunteers

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – State Rep. Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, is encouraging area residents to nominate local volunteers for recognition through a statewide program that highlights the importance of community service.

“The women and men of the Quad-Cities area who spend countless hours volunteering in our schools, hospitals and churches deserve to be recognized for the critical role they play in uplifting our community,” Halpin said.  “This is a tremendous opportunity to highlight the good work of someone making a difference, while drawing statewide attention to some of the charities that go above and beyond to serve unmet needs in our community.”

Halpin is asking for assistance in identifying volunteers for nomination for the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service 2019 Governor’s Service Awards. A panel of judges from across the state will select winners from five geographic regions, totaling 30 awards in six different categories. The categories for which volunteers can be nominated are:

• Adult (19-54 years old)
• AmeriCorps Member (member of an Illinois AmeriCorps national service program)
• Business (a for-profit company)
• Senior (55 years old plus)
• Senior Corps Members (55 years old plus that are members of the national service programs Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Senior Companion Program (SCP))
• Youth (18 years old or younger)

Nomination forms are available here and due by Feb. 15, 2019.
