BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – In response to the recently adopted federal tax plan, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, recently passed legislation in the House that would protect students and shield taxpayers.

“I’m encouraged by the bipartisan efforts of my colleagues in the House to join in supporting a bill that prioritizes our students and schools first, while also reducing the tax burden on working families,” Carroll said. “It is clearer now, more than ever, that we must overcome the politics of partisanship prioritize the financial interests of residents across the state.”

Carroll’s House Bill 4237 creates the Illinois Education Excellence Fund which is designed to allow individuals paying into the fund an opportunity to receive a tax credit for State and Local Property Taxes (SALT). Additionally, the legislation establishes that all proceeds within the fund are for the exclusive purpose of allocating dollars to Illinois’ public schools. The bills twofold approach is tailored to offer income tax relief while also providing financial assistance for education in Illinois.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with members of both parties in the coming days and weeks to continue moving our state in a positive direction,” Carroll said.
