Carroll Urges Override of Governor’s Veto of Commonsense Gun Control Legislation

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – Recently, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, met with members of Moms Demand Action, a commonsense gun control advocacy group, to discuss ongoing efforts to override Governor Rauner’s recent veto of a measure to require gun dealers in Illinois to acquire a business license with the state.

“As a member of Moms Demand Action and a sponsor of the gun dealer licensing measure, I will continue to work to override the veto of this commonsense reform,” Carroll said. “I am very disappointed in Governor Rauner’s veto. Instead of doing what’s best for the people of Illinois, our governor prioritized the extreme agenda of the NRA over public safety.”

Carroll, who’s a member of the Governor’s bipartisan Public Safety Working Group, has been collaborating with other members of the state legislature on solutions for the violence plaguing Illinois and the country.

“While the Governor talks a good game, his absence from the working group meetings speaks volumes,” Carroll said. “We’re all ready to address this problem, and our Governor feels trips to Europe are more important than meeting with us to discuss issues of public safety. Moving forward, I hope the Governor decides to participate in the discussion on how to curb gun violence in our state.”
