State Rep. Moylan Thanks Advocates and Parents; Urges Governor to Sign Common-Sense Gun Reform Bills

DES PLAINES, Ill. – After his recent successful efforts to pass common-sense gun reforms in Springfield, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is thanking the many advocates who came down to the capitol and is urging the governor to sign the common-sense gun reform bills with the following statement:

“I would like to thank all the incredible parents and gun safety advocates who came down to Springfield last week to voice their concerns about gun violence and to stand strong and fight for common-sense gun reforms.

“As representatives, we heard you as you all inspired many of us in the General Assembly to fight for changes and policies that will protect our children. We heard you when you said that enough was enough and that something needs to be done. We heard you while we discussed what rational steps need to be taken to better protect our families. This was a community initiative and we could not have done it without every single one of you.

“Again, I understand this will be an up-hill battle, but I refuse to give up on this important fight. Other politicians have backed down in the past, and because of their inaction, children continued to be statistics of gun violence. I have been encouraged by all the parents in the community and moved by the strong demand for action. Now, it is time for the governor to act as well. I urge Governor Rauner to sign the Gun Dealing Licensing Act now that it is on his desk, and join our fight for common-sense gun reforms that will protect our children.

“Thank you again to the parents and advocates, for showing up and proving your strong voice to us in Springfield. Together, we will continue this fight, because even if one life is saved from enacting these common-sense gun reforms, it will have all been worth it.”
