JOLIET, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, attended the Joliet Public Schools Board Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Lynne Thigpen Elementary School.
The meeting included a public hearing on the tentative FY26-27 budget, which was adopted by the board, as well as a report by district Superintendent Dr. Theresa Rouse on recent events in the district. August ribbon cuttings for state-of-the-art Gompers and Hufford Jr. High Schools were a product of a district-wide referendum that received over 71% of support from voters.
“Dr. Rouse engaged community leaders to shepherd this critical project to the finish line,” Rep. Manley said. “If it wasn’t for her relationship building and reputation in the district, this referendum would not have had such outstanding support from the community. Thank you to the voters for believing in the mission of education, our children and the tenure of Dr. Theresa Rouse.”
The FY26-27 budget will be submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education and the Regional Office of Education in October, with a Conduct Public Hearing being held on Nov. 12 to approve a resolution confirming fund balance transfers for the Jefferson Elementary building improvement project.
Upcoming board meetings will be held on Oct. 7 at J.F. Kennedy Administrative Center, on Oct. 14 at Gompers Junior High, and Nov. 4 at J.F. Kennedy Administrative Center. For more information and meeting minutes, visit:
