PEORIA, Ill. – State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, is reminding constituents to take advantage of the upcoming Back-to-School State Tax Holiday. The tax reduction applies to school supplies ranging from stationery to shoes and clothing.
“Starting this Friday, the state sales tax will be reduced on select Back to School items,” said Gordon-Booth. “This reduction will make supplies more affordable for working families, college students, crafters and more.”
Items included in the state sales tax holiday includes:
- Clothes and school uniforms,
- Shoes, boots, and sandals,
- Seasonal apparel, including coats, rain jackets, swimwear, hats and gloves,
- School and office supplies, including paper, pens and pencils, calculators, writing tablets,
- Backpacks and lunchboxes, and more.
“Don’t forget this tax reduction applies to small businesses, too!” said Gordon-Booth. “It’s so important to shop locally and support our local business owners whenever possible.” The Back-to-School State Tax Holiday begins on August 7 and continues through August 16.
