SPRINGFIELD, Ill.— Following the conclusion of the spring session, state Rep. Bob Rita, D-Blue Island, reflects on his efforts to increase affordability and public safety for Illinoisans.
“Affordability was our most important focus for this year,” Rita said. “With the sharp rise in expenses across the board from groceries to healthcare, it was very important for us to find ways to address this main issue affecting our state. I’m proud to work hard to find those solutions and support hard-working families and communities.”
Rita voted for a smart and compassionate budget that addresses the affordability crisis by making critical investments in services like food security and expanding funding for local schools, public safety programs and healthcare for at-risk communities. The budget also includes resources communities need to provide property tax relief and a temporary freeze on the state gas tax.
Throughout the spring session, Rita supported protections for consumers and patients, including legislation to require businesses to honor all advertised coupons (House Bill 45), measures to protect patient property by prohibiting hospitals from placing liens on patients homes (House Bill 4461) and expanded speech therapy services under both public and private insurance companies (House Bill 2899).
“A healthy, thriving community has always been a goal,” Rita said. “We can make that happen with the right resources, good funding, and continued support of the programs that we all need the most. And we can keep Illinois going in the right direction.”
