OTTAWA, Ill. – State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel, D-Ottawa, will host her monthly Neurodivergent Council on Saturday, March 21 for residents to collaborate and discuss policy ideas that better reflect the needs of the neurodivergent community. The theme for March’s meeting is “Accommodations and Assisted Technology.”
“Our March meeting centers on accommodations and assisted technology options for those on the spectrum. It’s a common myth that every autistic person experiences the same challenges—which just isn’t true. Every person shows their neurodivergency differently, so it’s important for our community to have information on the wide range of resources they could benefit from—whether at work, at school, or at home,” said Briel. “Our goal at the conclusion of this meeting will be equipping folks to better navigate different accommodations and assisted technology offerings, as well as hearing ideas on how the state could improve services.”
Briel will host the council meeting on Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to Noon in-person at her district office, located at 628 Columbus St. (Suite 408) in Ottawa and virtually on Google Meet, linked here. Any person on the spectrum is welcome to join the council; the council is not limited to Bureau, DeKalb and LaSalle county residents. Schools and workplaces are encouraged to attend virtually.
“These council meetings have been a hit for residents near and far. It’s not only an opportunity to openly share what it’s like to live on the spectrum, but we’ll learn how we can benefit from assistive technology to gain more confidence and independence in our daily routines,” said Briel. “These meetings are open to all—whether you’re on the spectrum or just want to engage with us and learn more.”
The council meets every third Saturday of the month, unless otherwise indicated. For more information reach out to contact@staterepbriel.com.
