ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – In an ongoing effort to help seniors, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, welcomed the Will County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to help inform seniors at Rep. Manley’s monthly Retirees Legislative Advisory Committee, called RLAC.
Community Outreach Program Manager Dawn Boyle, joined by EMA’s Claudia Olech, talked about the many ways seniors can prepare themselves in case of an emergency.
“We are never too old to learn something new about how to take care of ourselves,” Rep. Manley said. “Will County Emergency Management Agency described ways to stay safe during our everyday lives, and especially in challenges faced by our older residents.”
Boyle talked about ways people can protect themselves from falls to how to ready themselves for storms. One tip Boyle shared was to keep extra medications in a safe place in case of a storm or tornado. In 2025, Will County experienced a mild weather year, compared to the year before, she said.
Will County Emergency Management Agency offers a number of educational resources, including a Lunch & Learn Webinar Series. These virtual sessions occur the first Tuesday of each month, through May. The webinars are held for 30 minutes, with an additional 15-minute question and answer period.
Upcoming topics are “The Resilient Chef: Cooking When the Power Goes Out,” on April 7; and “What’s the Big Deal About Heat? (Spoiler Alert: A Lot!)” on May 5.
Registration is available at https://www.willcountyema.org/learn.
Manley hosts these legislative advisory committees to identify areas where policy solutions could help. In addition to RLAC, Rep. Manley also hosts three other legislative action committees: Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GrandLAC), Women’s LAC (WLAC), and Neurodiversity LAC (NeuroLAC).
