Mason Supports U.S. Supreme Court Decision Opposing Trump’s Tariffs

GURNEE, Ill. — State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against most of President Trump’s illegal tariffs, offering relief to consumers, business owners, and the economy as a whole:

“How refreshing it is to hear good news from the federal level this morning! These aggressive tariff policies have been draining our country, especially the hard-working, taxpaying consumers. Trump campaigned on international tariffs, but what he declined to mention was that his agenda would cost American citizens over $150 billion. Not to mention what it would do to business owners—especially small business owners.

“My hope now is that consumers will be able to receive a refund from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to repair the financial damage that has been inflicted by Trump’s tariffs. Congress clearly has the power to reverse presidential declarations; now it’s time to exercise their power to relieve taxpayers.”

In January, Mason sponsored House Resolution 623, calling for the suspension of tariffs and the refund of $2,000 to American households with an annual income of $250,000 or less.
