SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s budget address today, emphasizing financial relief for hard-working Illinoisans during the current, nationwide cost-of-living crisis:

“The Governor’s Budget Address is the first step in crafting a state budget that makes sense for Illinois. Now that he has made his priorities clear, we can step in to represent the needs of our districts.

“I have and will continue to champion legislation prioritizing affordable property taxes, accessible healthcare, and safe, reliable education and childcare programs. Especially as the federal government continues to cut funding for vital resources. Basic necessities like food and housing should not be financially draining families, but they are. It’s our responsibility to create a state budget that actually benefits Illinoisans facing these affordability challenges.

“From here, I’ll be spending the next few months combing through the budget line-by-line, taking charge of what we can control by establishing a smart, responsible plan that invests in an affordable future. Here in Illinois, I intend to fight federal uncertainty with stability,” said Mason.
