SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, issued the following statement Wednesday after the governor’s annual Budget Address:
“Now more than ever we need a responsible and compassionate budget plan that funds critical services to help families make ends meet and everyday life more affordable.
“The governor’s outline touches on many topics I’ve heard from my constituents. They expect us to prioritize education, child care, health care, public safety, reliable transportation and other key
issues facing families and they want it done without wasting a penny of taxpayer money. They also expect us to build on the financial progress we have made in recent years, which has been nothing short of amazing. The mountain we’ve had to climb to undo the devastation that the Rauner years caused has paid off and now Illinois is in a better position to tackle challenges as they come. In an era of uncertainty caused by the unrelenting chaos from Washington, strengthening our fiscal standing so we can effectively reinforce our priorities and values is critical.
“I’m focused on developing a budget plan that not only invests in an affordable future for our residents but also meets the moment with realistic solutions. Today is the start of a larger process, and as I review the governor’s proposal line-by-line, I'll be focused on creating opportunity and building a stronger state for every Illinoisan.”
