Through two resolutions, state Rep. DuBuclet, D-Chicago, is calling out the administration’s refusal to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies and its decision to freeze billions of dollars in child care funding—moves that threaten the financial stability of families across Illinois and the nation.

“At a time when families are struggling with rising costs for housing, food, health care, and child care, this administration continues to make life harder for the people it is supposed to serve,” DuBuclet said. “Instead of offering real solutions, the president is engaging in political gamesmanship and dangerous distractions while everyday Americans fall further behind.”

Rep. DuBuclet backed resolutions that highlight a pattern of harmful decisions by the Trump administration such as  trade wars that have raised prices, refusing to renew health care subsidies, and the deliberate withholding of child care funds from states that do not align politically.

Rep. DuBuclet voted to:

  • Urge Congress to reinstate ACA and Inflation Reduction Act health care subsidies to ensure affordable coverage for more than 500,000 Illinois residents who depend on the ACA marketplace, through House Resolution 620.
  • Call for the immediate release of $10 billion in frozen child care funding, including more than $1 billion owed to Illinois families—many supporting children facing poverty, chronic illness, or disability—through House Resolution 621.

“I have never seen a president show such disregard for working families,” DuBuclet said. “From threatening food assistance during a government shutdown to now making child care unaffordable, these actions are cruel, irresponsible, and intentional. I will continue to speak out and fight back when Illinois families are put in the crosshairs for political reasons.”
