CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –  State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, is celebrating over $1 million in grants to improve two parks in the 103rd, as part of a $36 million grant package announced earlier this morning from the Illinois Department of Resources and Governor Pritzker.

“I am so excited to see the continued growth of Homer Lake and the revitalization of King Park,” said Ammons. “Our local park districts are crucial in our community, allowing our children a place to play and find joy and community, and find community amongst us as parents and grandparents as well.

The grants were awarded through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development, or OSLAD, program.

Below are the grant recipients in Champaign County:

  • Champaign County Forest Preserve District, Nature Center Gateway to Recreation at Homer Lake – $600,000
  • Urbana Park District, King Park revitalization – $600,000

“I’m so proud of the work the Champaign County Forest Preserve District and Urbana Park District are doing,” said Ammons. “Investing in our community through spaces for us to connect with others and connect with nature will tremendously benefit all the families in our community.”
