ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, issued this statement in response to the Trump Administration’s partisan freeze of vital funding for childcare services in five Democratic-led states, including more than $1 billion in Illinois:
“The Trump Administration’s coldhearted attack against hundreds of thousands of children and their parents is just another callous attempt to punish innocent people, purely because they happened to live in a state that didn’t support him in an election.
“While this president raises the cost of living for those who can least afford it, I pledge to use this coming legislative session to fight to lower costs and preserve the vital services he tries to eliminate.
“As a leader in the effort to expand childcare assistance in our state, I won’t allow the countless families that have benefited from our efforts so far to endure this cruelty without help.”
