PEORIA, Ill. – State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, will lead a press conference this Monday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. to highlight new state support for Friendship House’s after-school programs and Pathway to YOUR Future, an initiative to help high school students develop life skills and access job training opportunities.
Gordon-Booth and Friendship House President/CEO Marcellus Sommerville will further discuss the organization’s work in the community, and the importance of state investment in local organizations that uplift families.
“In an era of uncertainty, Friendship House has consistently stepped up as a frontline organization for this community,” Gordon-Booth said. “They are a dependable partner, and this state support reflects not only their work, but the results they are able to consistently deliver for area families. This investment not only prioritizes our local youth, it also helps Friendship House free up their resources to continue their critical mission to address food insecurity made worse by decisions in Washington.”
The state’s $300,000 grant will bolster Friendship House’s after-school programs that help students with additional learning opportunities, activities and personalized assistance. Pathway to YOUR Future is a new program that specifically supports high school students’ transition into adulthood with resources to develop life skills and course certification opportunities to help access post-grad jobs.
