CHICAGO, Ill  In her first fall veto session, state Rep. Lisa Davis, D-Chicago, advocated for lowering costs, strengthening protections for communities affected by immigration violence and refining accessible transit for Chicagoans through a series of transformative legislation she helped pass.

“Every day shouldn’t be this hard— no one should be too afraid to open a utility bill or scared of being detained for the color of their skin,” said Davis. “My goal is to make peoples’ lives easier, not harder, and we fought hard for that throughout the veto session.”

Davis’ legislation renaming part of Harlem Avenue as Little Palestine Way, honoring the impact of Palestinian-Americans in Chicago, was passed.

Investing in transit benefitting Chicago and all of Illinois, she also Senate Bill 2111—transformative legislation designed to save and reform public transit using existing state funds rather than implementing any new taxes.

In response to the Trump Administration’s warrantless immigration raids, Davis passed House Bill 1312, a bold measure that allows federal immigration enforcement to be held accountable by creating new protections at hospitals, daycares, and institutions of higher learning, and courthouses.

Aimed at lowering energy costs for families affected by recent increased energy bills, Davis passed Senate Bill 25—a transformative investment in capturing clean energy, increasing battery storage and improving energy efficiency.

She also helped pass House Bill 1085, strengthening mental health and substance abuse recovery services by requiring insurance to cover out of network services as in-network.

Finally, Davis passed Senate Bill 642, an expansion of the senior property tax freeze that addresses inflation and ensures more seniors qualify for relief.

“The chaos stirred up by the Trump Administration in Washington will not deter us from advocating for our people here in Illinois,” said Davis. “I will continue to fight to improve the livelihood of everyone in my community in session next year.”
