CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –  Accessibility and affordability were the goals during fall session for state Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, which was accomplished with her support on a series of legislation that will uplift Illinoisans locally and statewide.

“I’m proud of what we accomplished throughout this veto session,” said Ammons. “We made progress on a variety of issues and topics, but the common denominator was clear: make life easier for Illinoisans, from plans to decrease utility prices to extending mental health care coverage.”

As Chair of the Energy and Environment Committee, Ammons has been integral to conversations around lowering energy costs for all families. Ammons passed Senate Bill 25, which is aimed at lowering energy costs for families affected by recent increased energy bills through transformative investments in capturing clean energy, increasing battery storage and improving energy efficiency.

In response to the Trump Administration’s warrantless immigration raids, Ammons helped pass House Bill 1312, a bold measure that allows federal immigration enforcement to be held accountable by creating new protections at hospitals, daycares, and institutions of higher learning, and courthouses.

Additionally, Ammons supported Senate Bill 2111—transformative legislation designed to save and reform public transit, both in Chicago and across Illinois, using existing state funds rather than implementing any new taxes.

She also helped pass House Bill 1085, strengthening mental health and substance abuse recovery services by requiring insurance to cover out of network services as in-network.

The Ammons-backed Clean Slate Act passed, giving individuals with previous convictions fresh starts with automatic record sealing. Ammons is an advocate for criminal justice reform and has worked on legislation improving the rehabilitation of the previously and currently incarcerated.

Finally, she voted for Senate Bill 642, an expansion of the senior property tax freeze that addresses inflation and ensures more seniors qualify for relief.

“Our job is not done yet—we have more progress to make,” said Ammons. “On top of statewide issues, we have to deal with federal issues like the consequences of this government shutdown and the Trump Administration’s pause on SNAP benefits. We must take the next few months to prepare to be productive and impactful during session next year.”
