Hoffman Collecting Canned Goods for Thanksgiving Giveaway, Asks for Community Donations

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – In coordination with state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, is asking local residents to join him in collecting canned goods to provide families a full Thanksgiving dinner this year at their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway.

“Our turkey giveaway is always a wonderful day when residents support each other, and this year we’re working to make it even better,” Hoffman said. “I appreciate the generosity from local residents to step up and assist their neighbors, and right now we need your help.”

Hoffman and Belt’s Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway will take place Thursday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. until supplies run out at the Downtown Belleville YMCA, located at 200 S. Illinois St. in Belleville. Thanks to a generous donation from Meridian, Hoffman and Belt expect to offer 200 turkeys to families this year.

In addition to the main meal, Hoffman and Belt are aiming to collect 200 cans or boxes of green beans, stuffing, gravy, cornbread and cranberry sauce.

Residents can help by dropping off these canned goods at:

– The Downtown Belleville YMCA located at 200 S. Illinois St. in Belleville,
– Belt’s East St. Louis District Office at the Kenneth Hall Building, located at 10 Collinsville Ave., Suite 201A in East St. Louis,
– Belt’s Swansea District Office located at 7 Park Place, Suite C in Swansea,
– The Campus Old Main Hall Lobby at 2300 W. Main St. in Belleville (Former Lindenwood Belleville Campus), or
– Birth to Five located at 1000 S. Illinois St. in Belleville.
