SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Anthony DeLuca, is backing a bipartisan resolution that condemns the recent rise in political violence and urges a more civil and respectful path forward.

“Like many Americans, I’m alarmed by the violence we have witnessed in recent years,” DeLuca said. “From Melissa Hortman to Charlie Kirk, it’s incredibly disheartening to see so many people willing to cheer on this violence as if it’s not real people getting hurt. It is time to end the nonstop political posturing and get back to work.”

DeLuca is cosponsoring House Resolution 494, which condemns political violence and encourages the people of Illinois and the United States to engage in civil, respectful and bipartisan political discussion and behavior. The bipartisan resolution outlines recent examples of assassination attempts, arson and other attacks on individuals from both sides of the aisle.

“There have been far too many tragedies, and many need to tone down the divisive rhetoric coming from both parties,” DeLuca said. “We’re Americans, and having differences of opinion is foundational to our identity. We must reject divisive, mean spirited personal attack speech in both parties before things get even worse.”
