EDWARDSVILLE, Ill – State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, was recognized as one of the most effective legislators in Illinois by research conducted by Vanderbilt University and the
University of Virginia.

“My priority has always been serving my district in whatever way I can, and I’m proud to see that my effort is making a difference,” Stuart said. “I understand that whether I’m in my district or in Springfield, I have a responsibility to give my constituents my all because they deserve to be represented by someone they can trust.”

Out of the 78 Democrats serving in the Illinois House of Representatives, Stuart ranked third in overall effectiveness according to the study. Out of all the members of the House, Stuart ranked third for having the longest streak of ‘exceeding expectations.’ She was able to carry this distinction through four General Assemblies.

Stuart has championed several key pieces of legislation that have been signed into law, with many of them focused on supporting students as they seek higher education. House Bill 2503 expanded opportunities for students to enroll in programs offered by community colleges in different districts, enabling students to enter into programs that may not be available in their own local community college. House Bill 301 permanently established AIM HIGH, a grant program that helps qualifying students attend any of Illinois’ public institutions of higher education.

The Center for Effective Lawmaking conducts joint research through Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia. Its primary purpose is to evaluate and communicate the effectiveness of lawmakers and U.S. legislative institutions. For more information, please visit thelawmakers.org/.
