SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, is speaking out against the violent, corrupt, and illegal actions perpetrated under the Trump Administration, advancing resolutions to condemn efforts that disregard due process, incite political violence, and threaten free speech and a free press.

“Instead of inspiring hope, federal agents have instilled fear and concern across our country,” Lilly said. “Here in Illinois, we will not stand for that. We will not sit back and watch as our First Amendment rights are stripped away or as demonstrators are met with tear gas for protesting the unnecessary and inhumane actions of ICE that tear families apart.”

After one of the most volatile summers in our nation’s history, Lilly opened the fall legislative session reaffirming her commitment to protecting constitutional rights, ensuring due process of law, and building safe communities for all.

Lilly voted to:
    •    Condemn all acts of political violence, whether committed by mass shooters, radical extremists, or masked federal agents deployed against civilians. (House Resolution 508)
    •    Denounce Donald Trump’s discriminatory profiling and violent tactics, including the use of chemical munitions, illegal search and seizure, and other violations of due process protections guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. (House Resolution 504)
    •    Rebuke Trump’s attempts to undermine a free press, including the abuse of executive powers to punish dissent and reward compliance, threatening the freedom of speech and endangering local journalism. (House Resolution 505)

“We will continue to do everything we can to maintain dignity and respect in our communities,” Lilly said. “That starts with upholding the constitutional rights of every single person in our
state.”
