Harper Responds to Lawsuit Accusing Trump Administration of ‘Extreme Brutality’

CHICAGO – State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, released the following statement in support of Chicago journalists and protestors filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration:

“I am in full support of Chicago press associations and journalists filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration for using cruel measures at local protests in an effort to stop people from speaking their truth. As a former journalist, I know the importance of the government honoring our first amendment right to free speech. Violating this right makes it almost impossible for journalists to honor their obligation of seeking the truth and reporting it. As my colleagues and I return to the House chamber, we will do everything in our power to ensure that our constitutional rights are protected and stand up against these troubling incidents brought upon our state by Donald Trump.”
