ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Committed to repairing and modernizing infrastructure across her communities, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Bolingbrook, is celebrating recent funding secured for Will County roads, sidewalks, bridges and other key safety improvements for both pedestrians and drivers.
“These projects through the governor’s Highway Improvement Program will make our roads and intersections safer, our sidewalks and bridges more accessible, and our traffic less congested for drivers, bikers and pedestrians alike,” said Avelar.
The funding was made possible through Avelar’s support for the Highway Improvement Program included in this year’s budget and backed by Governor Pritzker. Over $95 million will be solely invested in areas around Will County, including:
● Over $38 million for bridge reconstruction and replacement at Des Plaines River & Sanitary & Ship Canal in Lockport
● $24.8 million to add auxiliary lanes from I-355 to IL-Route 53 (Bolingbrook Drive) in Bolingbrook
● Over $9.5 million for miscellaneous pavement improvements around Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Lockport and Romeoville
● Over $2.5 million to improve the intersection at Normantown Road and Devonwood Avenue in Romeoville
● $919,000 to improve sidewalks from 83rd Street to Justamere Road in Woodridge
“So many of us count on a vehicle in our daily lives, which means we need reliable roads. These multiple projects across Will County mean less crashes, faster emergency service response time, and safer terrain,” said Avelar. “I’m thrilled to see this funding turn into action and ensure our communities can get to work, school and home safely.”
