CHICAGO – State Rep. Mike Crawford, D-Chicago, will join representatives in Washington D.C. Oct. 6-8 for The Council of State Government’s Medicaid Leaders Development Program to discuss Medicaid’s state-federal partnerships and bring back solutions to challenges facing enrollment and coverage for Illinoisans.
“Being one of 30 people from across the U.S. to be selected to meet and discuss Medicaid and how we can make it work better for our communities is such an honor,” Crawford said. “From the moment I was sworn in, I have been dedicated to improving stateside Medicaid policy for the more than 47,000 Medicaid participants in my community. This conference will help transform that dedication into a battle plan to substantively improve Medicaid coverage in Illinois.”
The CSG Medicaid Leaders Development Program is a two-year initiative bringing together state leaders from across the country to inform and equip them with the knowledge and skills to develop comprehensive, fact-based Medicaid policy. Starting Oct. 6, Crawford will be attending the 2025 CSG Medicaid Policy Academy which will include policy briefings, expert-led discussions and best practice sharing.
The Council of State Governments is a nonpartisan organization committed to informing up and coming legislative leaders with Medicaid interest and policy agendas with information, insight and education to become subject matter leaders back home.
“It’s no secret that Americans are facing a crisis in healthcare,” Crawford said. “The recently passed ‘Big, Beautiful Bill makes one trillion dollars in cuts to Medicaid. To make matters worse, some of the subsidies that make the care provided by the Affordable Care Act completely out of reach. These cuts and the abdication of their responsibility, means states like Illinois can and must get creative about filling these gaps. This conference will help ensure Springfield’s efforts on this issue are guided by the best information at our disposal.”
