Springfield, IL – Today, Representative Abdelnasser Rashid (D-Bridgeview) was made the Vice-Chair of the Small Business, Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship Committee in the 104th General Assembly.
“I’m honored to Vice-Chair the Small Business, Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship Committee,” said Rep. Rashid. “Artificial intelligence is changing the tech landscape in real time and I’m going to fight to make sure that Illinois small businesses and workers aren’t left behind.”
Rashid is the Chair of the Illinois Generative AI and Natural Language Processing Task Force that has been studying technology’s impact on civil rights, education, labor, consumer protections, and the environment in the state.
“Rep. Rashid will bring a fresh perspective to this important committee,” said Speaker Chris Welch, who made the appointment. “Rashid’s leadership on artificial intelligence, economic justice and support for small businesses, makes him a great fit as vice-chair. As a committee science major at Harvard, there is no one more qualified than Rashid to protect Illinoisans in the new and changing environment of AI that we face.”
Rashid will also be serving on several other committees this term including Appropriations: General Services; Cybersecurity, Data Analytics & IT; Energy & Environment; Housing; and Transportation: Regulation, Roads, and Bridges.
