SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Today, the Illinois Senate voted to extend the Illinois Generative A.I. and Natural Language Processing Task Force, co-chaired by Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid (D-Bridgeview).
The task force consists of legislators, technology experts, educators and other stakeholders to provide ongoing informed policy recommendations on AI to the legislature. It will look at the impact of AI on a wide range of sectors, including schools, state and local government, business, and civil liberties. The task force will submit yearly reports to the General Assembly.
The task force’s first landmark report on AI in the state was released last December.
“AI is rapidly changing our state in ways good and bad, and we need to make sure that our laws and regulations stay up-to-date to meet these challenges,” said Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid. “By continuing to monitor the AI landscape, Illinois will be well-poised to seize opportunities for innovation and mitigate serious risks to Illinois families that will arise. This is a critical conversation we must continue to have as a state.”
House Bill 3646 now heads to the governor’s desk.
