BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – State Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, is announcing a new round of National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) grants coming to Illinois that will spur electric vehicle growth by funding 25 EV charging stations along interstate corridors.

“Bloomington is becoming a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing as we continue to expand our partnership with Rivian. Consequently, the growth of EV infrastructure means growth for our economy,” Chung said. “This funding will not only support thousands of new electric vehicles, it will bolster good-paying sustainable jobs and further attract investment in Bloomington and the surrounding area.”

The successful release of $18.4 million in a second round of NEVI grants will fund 25 electric vehicle charging stations along interstate corridors, supplementing Illinois’ EV infrastructure and encouraging greater manufacture and sale of electric cars. Last year, Illinois received an initial round of $25.3 million in NEVI grants to build 37 charging stations.

One $910,287 grant is going to Francis Energy Charging LLC to build an EV charging station on the west side of Bloomington at Eric’s Too Family Restaurant and Lounge.

“I’m pleased that, in addition to bolstering an important industry for Bloomington, we will also be receiving funds to directly grow local energy sources,” Chung said. “As a thriving metropolitan area, robust clean energy options are vital.”
