BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Local communities are taking advantage of $500,000 in state grants pushed by state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, to purchase new equipment for police and fire, support storm drain engineering in Stookey Township and encourage economic development for the region.

“Our first responders are always there for us in our moments of need, and it’s critical they have the tools and resources they deserve,” Hoffman said. “This grant funding will help keep their equipment up to date so they can continue to do their jobs safely and effectively.”

Local departments receiving support for equipment purchases include Belleville Fire, Brooklyn Fire, East Side Fire, Fairmont City Police, Fairmont Fire, Fairview Fire, French Village Fire, Madison Fire, Northwest Fire, O’Fallon Fire, Signal Hill Fire, Swansea Fire, Venice Fire, Venice Police, Villa Hills Fire and Washington Park Fire. Purchases have included protective gear, tools and other various items.

The Hoffman backed-grants also include funding for a storm drain survey by Stookey Township, and support for Leadership Council Southwest Illinois for its efforts related to business attraction, workforce development and tourism.

“The state needs to continue to be a strong partner for our region, and I’m proud to advocate for resources that can improve our area’s quality of life,” Hoffman said. “Let’s continue to work together.”
