SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood of the South Atlantic, which allows states to defund Planned Parenthood, state Rep. Lisa Davis, D-Chicago, issued the following statement:

“I am outraged by the continued assault on women’s bodies and our autonomy. Our right to seek and receive care should only be the concern of us and our healthcare provider. Women should be trusted to make the best decision for our bodies.

In spite of that simple trust, backwards-thinking politicians are determined to try to take us back to a time that should be left in the past. A time where women were meant to be seen and not heard, but it’s 2025. We are not going back.

Here in Illinois, a woman’s right to choose will always be the law of the land. The state will always provide funding to Planned Parenthood and other providers who provide abortions, reproductive care and other services to the community.

That’s right, Planned Parenthood’s abortions only make up one percent of its services offered, but the other side continues to insist that their effort is to protect life. Yet, removing a major source of health care for a state’s population is one of the most egregious ant-life stances one could take.

I am prepared to continue to stand up and speak out to protect our rights here in Illinois, and I will always trust women and their doctors to do what is best for themselves, their families and their bodies.”
