BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — State Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, toured Flyover Film Studios with Experience Champaign-Urbana and Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady, giving them an exclusive look at the film studio and the movie currently being filmed at the studio thanks in part to film credits backed by Chung in the state budget.
“The Film Production Tax Credit has brought many films and tv show productions to Illinois and the cheaper prices of the central region of our state has brought some of those films and tv shows from Chicago down to Central Illinois,” said Chung. “The growing Illinois film industry is providing job opportunities and economic growth throughout the state, including here in Central Illinois.”
Calling the decommissioned Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul home, Flyover Film Studios is equipped with standing sets, a large wardrobe space, and set dressings and props, offering significant production support for films and television shows that choose to produce their tv show or movie in Central Illinois.
Flyover Film Studios also offers an ongoing Film Workshop Series and a free career training program for those looking to pursue a career in film production in Illinois. Flyover Film Studios has also partnered with Parkland College, using the campus as filming locations and offering internship opportunities to students interested in a career in the film industry.
“The impact on our local economy is not limited to job opportunities; having a film studio in our community boosts our economy through hotel bookings, restaurants, grocery stores, local businesses, and much more,” said Chung. “The Illinois film industry is continually growing and I’m excited that our community and its economy are included in this growth.”
