BELLEVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, will welcome representatives from the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office to help area residents claim lost funds at an I-CASH event scheduled for Wednesday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Belleville City Hall.

“You may have money that is owed to you,” Hoffman said. “If so, this is a great opportunity to talk to a representative from the treasurer’s office in-person who can help with the claims process. A lot of times people don’t realize these assets exist, and we’re happy whenever we can help someone access the funds they’re rightfully owed.”

Residents will be able to see if any of the more than $5 billion in unclaimed funds currently held by the treasurer belongs to them. By providing proper identification and filling out necessary paperwork in a claims process, original owners and heirs are able to receive their property back at no cost. Unclaimed property can come from old bank accounts, stock dividends, insurance payments, utility deposits and other accounts that have gone dormant for a period of time.

Since 2015, more than $2 billion in assets have been returned to residents. More information about I- CASH can be viewed at icash.illinoistreasurer.gov.
