SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Compassion, responsibility and efficiency were the main focuses of the balanced budget that state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, supported during the most recent legislative session.

“Every time I go to the drawing board in Springfield, working families’ well-being is my primary concern. That concern was amplified this session, largely due to Donald Trump making it his mission to put our communities and economy at risk,” Mason said. “By confronting challenging situations head-on and making tough decisions, my colleagues and I were able to champion a budget that invests in every Illinois community.”

Mason voted to put key resources into working families by saving $193 million in taxpayer funds through reducing inefficiencies in government operations. The community-oriented budget Mason helped pass includes measures to ensure stability for working families, such as the Budget Reserve for Immediate Disbursements and Government Emergency—or BRIDGE—Fund. This fund serves as a contingency for Illinois residents in case of reckless actions by the Trump Whitehouse. She also raised wages for often overworked and underpaid home healthcare workers, fought to lower the price on prescription drugs, and continued her commitment to education by securing new funding for classroom education and afterschool programs.

“As we return to our communities and leave the Capitol, I remain committed to continue fighting for the policies that uplift working families throughout our state,” Mason said. “Donald Trump didn’t start his fight against average Americans this term and we are more than prepared to stay in the ring.”
