SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, voted for a responsible and compassionate budget Saturday that further invests in schools, strengthens healthcare access and better prepares the state to tackle challenges caused by instability in Washington.

“This document puts people first, and reflects a balanced approach in a challenging time,” Gordon- Booth said. “We’re unable to count on the federal government to be an ally on critical issues that help families, and the economic uncertainty caused by reckless cuts and tariff plans further compelled us to develop a forward-thinking budget that has flexibility with funding reserves. By making necessary cuts, we’re ensuring we can maximize our resources on priorities that matter to families.”

The budget backed by Gordon-Booth includes over $190 million in state government administration cuts to better invest in education and healthcare, including safety net hospitals. The measure also protects funding for public safety and community programs related to violence prevention. To address potential contingencies caused by the White House, this year’s budget includes reserve funds that can be tapped as necessary.

As the spring legislative session wrapped up this week, Gordon-Booth also led efforts to pass a property tax package that provides relief to homeowners, maximizes efficiencies and updates procedures to create a fairer system for everyone. She also spearheaded passage of the Clean Slate Act, which makes a criminal sealing record procedure automatic for qualified cases to provide a fresh start and remove barriers to housing, jobs and other opportunities.

“We took steps forward, but more work remains,” Gordon-Booth said. “I’m going to continue fighting for families so that we can build a brighter future for every community.”
