ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, will be holding a shred day to help residents of the 54th district safely dispose of unwanted documents, recycle old electronics and get rid of unneeded prescription drugs.

The shred day will be on Saturday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon, in the parking lot of Prospect High School on 801 W. Kensington Road in Mt. Prospect. Cook County Commissioners Maggie Trevor and Scott Britton are joining Canty, as well as state Rep. Nicolle Grasse, state Sen. Mark Walker and Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

“Helping people safely dispose of sensitive or excess financial documents is an important service I’m happy to provide. As a representative of this community, I want to provide all the assistance I can,” Canty said. “I encourage folks to take advantage of this opportunity to get rid of clutter quickly, easily and in a way that is environmentally conscious.”

Participants must remove all paper clips, staples and other bindings from materials to be shredded. Cardboard boxes cannot be left at the event and no commercial shredding is allowed. Shredding will be allowed until shred trucks reach capacity.
