SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois House today passed House Bill 1631 that modernizes the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) Act, streamlining state IT services and enhancing local government cybersecurity coordination across Illinois.

To address growing cybersecurity threats, the bill includes a new requirement for local government units to designate a primary cybersecurity contact to work with the Statewide Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), ensuring faster, more coordinated responses to cybersecurity incidents.

“This legislation represents an important step forward in aligning our state’s digital infrastructure with modern needs,” said Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid. “By enhancing DoIT’s capacity and reinforcing our cybersecurity coordination with local governments, we are better protecting Illinoisans’ data and improving government efficiency.”

The updated framework will support Illinois’ digital transformation goals, improve service delivery, and strengthen public trust in the security and reliability of government systems.
