CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. – State Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Crystal Lake, hosted the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern Illinois at the Capitol for a mock debate on the House Floor on behalf of the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL). As Co-Chair of COWL, Rep. Ness hosted the annual mock debate alongside state Senator Erica Harris. About 50 girl scouts participated in the mock debate and received a badge for their participation.

“I am honored to have hosted about 50 girl scouts from central and southern Illinois at the Capitol for this mock debate, helping them earn a new badge,” said Ness. “I hope this experience inspires our girl scouts to pursue their dreams and shows these young girls the amazing things they are capable of achieving.”

For the past few years, the Conference of Women Legislators has hosted girl scout troops at the Capitol for mock debates on the House Floor on an annual basis. This year’s mock debate focused on a cell phone ban in schools and produced a robust discussion among the girl scouts. The girl scouts voted 24 in favor, 24 opposed, and 6 not voting. By hosting a mock debate for girl scouts, COWL and Girl Scouts aim to give these girls a look into public service and encourage our young girls to be the leaders of tomorrow.
