MONTGOMERY, Ill. — State Rep. Matt Hanson, D-Montgomery, is announcing a state funding opportunity for local governments to invest in local transportation projects. The current state budget includes $400 million for this purpose. Project applications are due no later than Sunday, June 1 at 11:45pm.
“Helping Illinois communities achieve improved and safer roads, bridges and sidewalks is a big part of building these communities up for their families,” Hanson said. “My colleagues and I supported this funding in the current budget because we’re determined to build a brighter future for everyone in Illinois.”
While roads are typically the responsibility of local governments to maintain, underserved municipalities, as well as those with lower cash flows often don’t have the option of performing needed maintenance routinely carried out elsewhere. This funding opportunity is meant to help fill in the gaps by providing municipalities with assistance. Project awards will range up to $10 million.
