SPRINGFIELD — State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, will put a spotlight on ways allies across the state can come together in fighting to address issues of equity in relation to food, farming, cannabis, funding and more at the Black Farmers & Growers Lobby Day on Wednesday, May 14 at 8:00 a.m. The event will be held at the Illinois State Capital Building.
“I always say that farmers and the agricultural sector are the economic engine of our state,” Harper said. “However, our black farmers and growers tend to get left behind and that is a huge reason why Black Farmers and Growers Lobby Day is one of the most important days of the year – to come together and advocate for their needs so they can have the resources to make sure everyone in Illinois has access to fresh and healthy food, economic stability, and a sustainable and just society.”
