EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — State Rep. Katie Stuart, will be featured as a speaker at Every Survivor Counts’ ‘Take Back the night’ event on Thursday, April 17, speaking on the need for an increase of services and resources for survivors of sexual assault. The event will be held at Southwestern Illinois College’s campus, at 2500 Carlyle Avenue in Belleville, IL.

“April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and it is important that we bring attention to this issue and the helpful services offered for survivors of sexual assault,” said Stuart. “Although Illinois has greatly expanded the services offered for survivors of sexual assault, we have to continue to expand these resources so that every survivor can receive the help and resources they need to heal, move forward, and take back their life.”

Every Survivor Counts, a non-profit that provides help and services to survivors of sexual assault, is bringing awareness to Sexual Assault Awareness Month by hosting a ‘Take Back the Night’ event. The event will begin with a walk on campus followed by a social hour where the community will have the opportunity to visit any informational tables. After the social hour, community leaders will share their stories and give speeches on sexual assault and survivor services.
