SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – State Rep. Yolanda Morris, D-Chicago, is fighting to rein in the rising cost of housing by passing a new bill cracking down on hidden ‘move-in fees’ added by landlords.

“Rent already consumes residents of our underserved neighborhoods budget,” Morris said. “You add on hidden junk fees that landlords are oftentimes not transparent about and it puts them in an even deeper hole that they do not have the resources to climb out of.”

Morris has prioritized efforts to crack down on high costs of living for working people in his/her community and House Bill 3564 is another step in that direction. The bill prohibits so-called ‘move-in fees,’ or other unnecessary expenses landlords charge at the time a lessor takes possession of a property.
