SPRINGFIELD, Ill. State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, has advanced key measures out of crucial legislative committees that will aid in a healthier and more equitable future.

“Now, more than ever it is important that all Illinoisans have access to affordable medication and treatments that ultimately promote better health outcomes,” Harper said. “This legislation will play a major role in individuals leading longer lives, improved quality of life, while also increasing their productivity and economic stability not only for themselves, but their families as well.”

Harper moved two key bills regarding this issue through the legislative committees responsible for sending approved bills to the House floor:

House Bill 1331, which would require the Department of Insurance to consider establishing ratios for genetic medicine and genetic counseling providers.

House Bill 3782, which would require that if a health insurance issuer requires a prior authorization for a chronic health condition, the approval shall remain valid from the date the health care professional receives the prior authorization approval for the duration of the length of the treatment, unless the standard of treatment for that health condition changes.

Harper’s bills remain in the House, awaiting votes by the full body.
