SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Nabeela Syed, D-Palatine, is taking another major step towards her goal of easing financial burdens for Illinois families by joining a new working group devoted to property tax reform.
“Easing financial burdens on working families is fundamental to building a more stable future. One of my biggest efforts as a lawmaker has been cutting the cost of vital prescription drugs, but we also can’t neglect the major problems posed by high property taxes, which are dragging down homeowners across Illinois,” Syed said. “I’m eager to join this working group and hear from a wide range of stakeholders and policy experts so we can craft smart new approaches to cutting property taxes.”
The working group will meet regularly with stakeholders from across the ideological spectrum to explore potential legislative approaches to lowering property tax burdens on Illinoisans. State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth is the chair, and other members are Reps. Anthony DeLuca, Marti Deuter, Daniel Didech, Norma Hernandez, Tracy Katz Muhl, Suzanne Ness, Abdelnasser Rashid, Mary Beth Canty and Curtis Tarver II.
“Every year, thousands of Illinoisans buy new homes and face the reality of the economic strain that property taxes can create,” Syed said. “I’m confident that my colleagues are as committed as I am to relieving that strain and allowing people to put their money towards creating better lives and helping their communities flourish.”
