SPRINGFIELD — State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, will put a spotlight on how actions in our nation’s capital will impact Illinois farmers and food at a hearing of the House Agriculture & Conservation Committee on Tuesday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. The committee will be held in Room 115 of the State Capitol in Springfield and live streamed on ilga.gov.

“As Chair of the House Agriculture & Conservation committee, it is my mission to improve local food infrastructure, eliminate food deserts across Illinois, and protect our farmers,” Harper said. “I have no words to describe how disappointing it is that the powers that be in Washington are doing everything that they can to ensure that this economy does not lead healthy and sustainable lives while securing positive futures for their families.”

Harper will hear from experts and stakeholders on how new federal tariffs, layoffs at the United States Department of Agriculture, and a freeze on critical food access programs are affecting Illinois farmers and driving the cost of fresh food higher.
