Avelar Appointed to Pensions Working Group

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, D-Romeoville, will lead an effort to secure a competitive, sustainable retirement for teachers, public safety workers, and others who serve our communities as a member of the new House Pensions Working Group. 

“Decisions regarding state retirement benefits need to be made deliberately, with everyone at the table. We need to consider our state and our communities’ ability to recruit and retain top-notch public safety workers, teachers, and skilled workers. We also need to understand the cost, so we know the promises we make can be kept,” said Avelar. 

Avelar has been and is currently a member of the Personnel & Pensions Committee and Appropriations Committee for the past three years. The Pension Working Group was created to bring stakeholders to the table to discuss Illinois’ obligations to workers and the financial realities facing the state.
