SPRINGFIELD, IL. – State Rep. Sonya Harper, D- Chicago, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his annual budget address:
“It is important that Illinoisans know that there are people on the front lines fighting for their everyday needs. As Chair of the House Agriculture and Conservation Committee, I remain committed to advocating for essential services that help our most disadvantaged communities live sustainable, healthy lives. That starts with collaborating across the state and coming up with solutions that eliminate food deserts, making sure that state-owned facilities that purchase food are obtaining healthy foods that are locally and equitably sourced, and ultimately doing everything in our power to provide a solid foundation for not only current farmers but the next generation.
“Beyond that, I look forward to working with my colleagues to advocate for the priorities of our communities, which is always to help our families get by, especially as the chaos in Washington continues to add to their already heavy financial burdens. I believe that the governor's proposal is the first step in making sure we are making a clear path for the people of Illinois.”
