SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, will focus on cutting costs for everyday Illinoisans in upcoming discussions on the new state budget, continuing his commitment to the kitchen table issues affecting his community.
“The working class people of our state and in my community deserve fighters in the Statehouse that won’t back down from the challenges on the horizon. I’m here to say that I am ready and willing to meet this moment and continue our legislature’s commitment to cutting the cost of living, securing our streets for our kids and seniors and passing a state budget that reflects the needs of the people. We’ve seen success on these fronts in the past: consecutive balanced budgets that both fund education and save taxpayer dollars, healthcare reforms to improve care and cut high costs, and cracking down on carjacking and the root causes of crime. Today’s budget address shows us that the Governor, House and Senate are unified in our commitment to building on these victories.”
Andrade is working tirelessly to save taxpayer dollars and help families build their financial future. House Bill 69 would raise the income threshold for the Low-Income Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption (SCAFHE) for qualifying individuals. SCAFHE helps protect low-income seniors from being priced out of their homes by rising property taxes, with this legislation expanding that aid to more Illinois seniors.
